SAE flanges and flange adapters

Where flow and pressure outgrow a threaded connection, the industry switches to a bolted flange. Two series, one dimension difference, and they do not interchange.

Sizes

Nominal sizes from 1/2" up through 2" and beyond, corresponding to dash -08 through -32. The flange size, the port size and the tube or hose bore are three separate numbers — quote all three.

The most common flange mistake

Mixing a Code 61 flange head with a Code 62 clamp (or the reverse). They bolt up, they look right, and they leak at the O-ring because the clamp does not sit at the correct depth. If a flange assembly leaks immediately after rebuild, check the code marked on both halves before looking anywhere else.

Pressure and confirmation

The code class gives the series pressure class; the actual working pressure of the assembly also depends on the flange material, the bolts and the O-ring compound, and it is defined by SAE J518. We confirm the rating for the exact parts on the order rather than quoting a generic number.
